Safeguarding at Thomas Russell Infants

At Thomas Russell Infants, our children’s welfare is of paramount importance to us including keeping our children safe. We work with the procedures set out by the Staffordshire Safeguarding Children’s Board, Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023). We do this by:

· Ensuring that safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility.

· Ensuring children in our school can share their concerns and ensure that they have a ‘voice’.

· Ensuring our staff are trained, regularly and rigorously.

· Ensuring children in our school are educated through a broad and balanced curriculum offering advice and guidance which allows them to make decision to help keep themselves safe.

· Ensuring we work collaboratively, knowing that no one agency can have the full picture, sharing information in a timely and accurate way and also ensuring that when required, we are not afraid to challenge professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.

All staff have a professional curiosity and speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead if they have concerns about a child and we work hard to build trusted relationships with children which facilitate this communication.

We maintain a professional attitude of it could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned. We expect all staff, governors, volunteers, and visitors to share our commitment, maintaining a safe environment and a culture of vigilance.

We are committed to giving our children the skills to keep safe at home and school which includes teaching the children how to stay safe online which is an essential element of our curriculum.
